There is no X-Men, no Avengers and no Brotherhood.
It's us and them. Humans and mutants and the tensions
between both are rising. Marches for Purity have been
conducted all around the United States of America. Most
recently in Washington DC, Dr Henry McCoy (a mutant rights
activist and mutant himself) was savagely beaten to death by
marchers who had turned violent. The Guthrie family were
slaughtered, there was no prosecution -- oh no, having two
mutants in the family gives you that type of credentials.
The Sapien League have been vying for political jurisdiction
to implement vast schemes to ostracize and
excommunicate mutants.
When a fiery explosion in the shape of a Phoenix wipes
out Albany and kills 600, 000 humans -- they get that
support. The realm has changed and so have the opposing
factions. With the Sapien League in government, mutants
have something truly to fear. Rallying behind Magneto, a
headquarters has been constructed and named Fortress X.
Each day mutants flock there for safe harboring,
they wait -- they wait for the war that is coming.
